About ANWIB

The Association of Nigerian Women in Business (ANWIB), is a strong voice advocating for the socioeconomic rights and empowerment of women entrepreneurs and their businesses.

Organization Profile

The Association of Nigerian Women in Business (ANWIB), registered in September 2005, was established to pursue women business priorities and amplify the voice of women entrepreneurs. It is a non-profit women business membership association promoting legislative advocacy, business development and entrepreneurial resourcing for women business owners and managers.

ANWIB features, product exhibitions, mentorship programmes, seminar training on exports services / logistics, and business development, as well as, opportunities to meet and network with relevant actors in and outside Nigeria’s Business community.

The association grew from just one chapter in Lagos to more chapters in Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Abuja FCT, Benue, and Abia states. The last three chapters are regional hubs covering the North-Central and South East Geopolitical zones respectively. 

ANWIB, a founding member of the Association of Nigerian Women Business Network (ANWBN), offers robust space for networking and capacity development and since inception supported Nigerian women entrepreneurs to priortise and engage on exports, trade and related economic priorities for the purpose of setting gender responsive agenda relevant to the women entrepreneurs and business growth.  Similarly, ANWIB leads the Advocacy of ANWBN and is responsible for shaping the engagement on key issues covered in the ANWBN National Women Business Adenda such as; access to credit, multiple taxation, insecurity, women’s political participation and representation, as wee as, energy distribution and poor road netwok

The association offers robust space for networking and capacity development as well as, support for women entrepreneurs to engage decision makers, and support the process of setting gender responsive agenda relevant to women entrepreneurs and business growth.

Key Objectives of ANWIB include

  • Improved women entrepreneurship through business mentoring, business development and, training services. 
  • Improved women ownership of business assets.
  • Strengthening women’s businesses for regional and global trade missions and export opportunities.
  • Strengthen entrepreneurial opportunities through conferencing, exhibitions and networking.

Leadership Structure

ANWIB is led by a highly reputable National President, a Consultant Monitoring and Evaluation Professional with over two decades expertise in Social Impact Analysis, Gender Practice and Entrepreneurship Training. She superintends over the National Executive Council, which include the State Chapter Presidents. 

The overall governance is with the Board of Trustees, inclusive of Chief Mrs. Tutu Adeleke, a former National President and former Managing Director of a foremost Sugar Company, Tate and Lye, Nigeria,  Iyalode Alaba Lawson, a Nigerian business magnate and first female president of NACCIMA, Mrs. Patricia Agbakwu, and Mrs. Ronke Atere. Also included in the founding membership of the Association is Chief Mrs. Onikepo Akande, a two-time Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and former President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). 

Although the association functions are decentralized along chapter levels, the efforts across states are complemented with committee assignments guided by the national executive body.

  • Access to vast Southwest Market, which is a hub of trade and innovative MSMEs, there are opportunities to reach a variety of business based on the strategic position of Lagos and Ibadan as Centres for Trade and Commerce. 
  • Investment in equipment and assets for efficient production in dairy, cassava farms, Shea butter, palm oil, and plantain flour.
 

Projects and Services Rendered

Training, Business Advisory, Financial linkages, Advocacy, brand visibility, Coaching/mentorship, networking and  Business Planning Review as well as commemorative programmes during International Women’s Day to highlight the priorities of women entrepreneurs. As a key member of the Association of Nigerian Women Business Network (ANWBN), ANWIB leads ANWBN advocacy on its Women National Business Agenda, particularly, in the areas of taxation, women political participation and representation, and Gender-Based Violence.

  • Membership:

There are 6 very active chapters of ANWIB in Abuja / FCT, and Abia, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, and Oyo States. Some of the key benefits to our members include;

Networking and Entrepreneurial Resourcing, Business Development, Capacity Building, Exhibitions, Product Visibility, Idea Incubation and Mentoring.

  • Step by step process for membership registration
  1. Interested applicants complete membership form and submit via google link.
  2. Membership screening committee reviews application and verify submitted information by applicants. 
  3. Successful applicants are contacted to provide 2 references who are current members. Unsuccessful applicants are also notified about their unsuccessful application.
  4. Upon receipt of 2 valid references, successful applicants are approved and become full members.

 

  • ANWIB engages stakeholders and policy makers iteratively while sourcing entrepreneurial resources for her members, particularly, as relating to building partnerships, accessing funds and creating viable networks aimed at empowerment and growth acceleration.
